Sophie Aldred played ace, a fan favourite companion! She had some of the most iconic scenes and some brilliant story's! Sophie and Sylvester were the perfect team, A fantastic era of Doctor Who!
5."How did it feel when you found out that Doctor Who had been cancelled?"
I was gutted! We could see that the scripts and stories for Sylvester’s darker more mysterious Dr were going down really well and we were doing so well in the ratings having been scheduled against Coronation St of all things. Everyone, cast and crew alike just loved working on the programme and it was such a shame that all that creativity for all concerned disappeared. It was a huge disappointment to everyone. 6. "If season 27 was made, what direction would you have liked Ace to go in and what stories would you have liked to have happened?" /7."How did it feel to be asked back to do stories for Big Finish?" I am delighted to have had the chance to do so much with Ace over the years with Big Finish including all the things that were planned for the character’s exit and all other possibilities besides! We never really went away what with BBV starting the whole audio adventure journeyland then Big Finish taking it on when Bill Baggs didn’t get a licence. 8."Do you have any stories or stand out moments from recording Big Finish Audios?" Mainly the amazing actors who want to do the stories and of course the legendary lunches! Benedict Cumberbatch did a story with Sylvester and me and had to leave a little early to meet up with someone called Mark Gatiss for a new idea he’d had to do a sort of updated version of Sherlock Holmes. 9."Comic cons are a big part for Doctor Who fans, what was it like going to your first comic con and meeting your fans?" My first convention was in 1987 when I had finished recording my first story, Dragonfire, and I had no idea what I was going to. They introduced me as the new companion and no one was expecting it; that was fun! Now Comic cons are well known but in those days people called fans “anoraks” and were not very nice about them! So things have thank goodness come a long way. Due for release February 2020 and is now available to pre order from www.amazon.co.uk
The season 26 Blu-Ray box set is due for release January 2020: www.amazon.co.uk |
1. "What was it like joining Doctor Who, Had you watched it previously?"
I watched it as a child; the first Dr I remember was Jon Pertwee and I thought Jo was very sweet and I wanted to look after her! I was very upset when Tom Baker took over as I thought no one could possibly replace Jon! He was amazing. And I loved Sarah Jane of course. 2."Do you have any stand out moments from filming the show?" Beating up the Dalek with the baseball bat was my moment of glory! 3."what was your favourite monster to face?" I loved the Cybermen as I’d been so scared of them growing up my Mum stopped me watching for a while. I got my own back on them with my catapult and gold coins! 4."The character of Ace really stands out for me in Remembrance of the Daleks, as well as it being a fan favourite, in which you single handedly battered a Dalek, did you know that it was going to become such an iconic moment?" I couldn’t have imagined all thise years ago that that’s what I would be remembered by! 10."Do you still watch Doctor Who now?"
I watch whenever I can - I will certainly make a date to watch the new series opener. 11."Would you like Ace to return to the show in the future? What monsters would you like to face?" I’d love to return especially now we’ve had a taste of what Ace is up to in the season 26 Blu Ray trailer. We would like to say a massive thank you to Sophie Aldred for taking the time for doing the interview, we really appreciate it!

Once, a girl called Ace travelled the universe with the Doctor – until, in the wake of a terrible tragedy they parted company. Decades later, she is known as Dorothy McShane, the reclusive millionaire philanthropist who heads global organisation A Charitable Earth. And Dorothy is haunted by terrible nightmares, vivid dreams that begin just as scores of young runaways are vanishing from the dark alleyways of London. Could the disappearances be linked to sightings of sinister creatures lurking in the city shadows? Why has an alien satellite entered a secret orbit around the Moon? Investigating the satellite with Ryan, Graham and Yaz, the Doctor is thrown together with Ace once more. Together they must unravel a malevolent plot that will cost thousands of lives. But can the Doctor atone for her past incarnation’s behaviour – and how much must Ace sacrifice to win victory not only for herself, but for the Earth? Interviewed in October 2019. |
